We hope that you will find something in our work that inspires and awakens a joy within.
We have many pieces that we have not yet gotten up on the website. If you would like to know when we get more of them up, please be sure to
contact us and join our mailing list. Note that we do not share emails with others so your info is safe from SPAM with us.
Developing out of a need to create pieces that served a purpose, we found that those pieces became an opportunity to serve as a canvas for
implementing color, creativity and especially…Spirit. Many times, I found compelled to incorporate broken glass and mirror, wire stitched grooves,
corroded and rusted metal and other found objects in the end product. Hence, JaggedTouch came to life.
My husband and I work together many times to architect 3-dimensional artwork that is meant to be functional while emitting an aura of magic and spirit. Our ideas blend into final creations that even we could not envision at the beginning of the process. It is always a joy to see and experience how our joint creations evolve.
Our Soul Essence line of work takes our creations to another level that celebrates the spirit of loved ones by implementing pictures and objects
in an attempt to capture and share the memories of others. These creations are personally the most fulfilling to create because the process allows
me to experience the lives and loves found in the spirit of the past and the present.
I prefer, but am not limited to, mixed media type of work as I like the challenge of finding successful juxtapositions of a broad range of colors,
materials, and objects. I am especially satisfied when I accomplish creating a piece that allows others to experience some form of joy while
providing for a functional need.
This is not your rabbit-in-the-hat kind of magic. This is the magic that is found in seeing the inspiration and imagination of otherwise ‘normal’ things and events.
Its that winged dragon in the clouds, that ancient trolls face peeking out from the burls of a tree stump, and the fluid beauty that rain drops paint while running down the windshield.
To seek the magic is the intentional attempt to SEE these hidden finds that many times escape us as we go through the routines of dealing with the daily chores of our lives. It many times will only be a glimpse from the corner of our eye and can easily be missed. If however the eye can see it, for that moment, no matter how short, there is a special joy that fills ones soul.
Artistamama, my mother and my soul-mate in art, was a self-proclaimed seeker of magic and made it her goal to instill the art of seeing in her children and grandchildren. It is this concept that inspires the artwork of JaggedTouch.
Growing up under the wings of ArtistaMama, my mom, I learned quickly that the magic of the gifts that nature gives us are meant to be a part of the
journey of life to be experienced and deeply felt…not skimmed over. When the rain falls and the wind blows, you listen quietly instead of complain
loudly. This perspective has become a great part of the process involved in creating my art as well as the content of the end result. Creating is a
meditating and healing experience for me and subsequently THE process is the most fulfilling.
I am not a ‘schooled’ artist as I call it. I have not studied the great masters to any extent. Nor have I learned the ‘rules’ on colors, form, and light as defined by a classroom. I’ve been exposed to them but maybe it’s the rebel in me, but I do not care for definitions on what makes ‘good art’. If I like it, I like it!
I know when a piece makes me happy and that is when I deem it successful. I have no desire to attempt to please the world of professionals or self-professed art critics. I do, however, find myself hoping to inspire feelings in the people that I make the pieces for.
My work is always evolving. Every day I find something new I’d like to try. My work starts with a plan which is very short-lived as the colors, materials and brush strokes seem to have a life of their own and show ME the way. Mistakes are my most welcome gifts as they give me a view into ‘things’ that I could not see.
I welcome challenges from others that take me outside of my box. They open up doors to skills that I did not know that I had. This at times can be
daunting as I find my way through a place I haven't yet been but once I push myself through, I am thrilled by the evolution that has occurred in my art.
As one seeks the magic, they enter into a world of imagination and creativity where the fears and burdens of this world can be put on a shelf…even if only for a moment. For me, this world is a place where the colors are vibrant, music dances on the breeze, and winged creatures live.
The experience of seeking the magic is kind of like a really good buzz without the hangover. You should try it!
“Take some time to come into our world” ArtistaMama
“St. Michael”, as ArtistaMama named him for his ability to put up with me and my family and for the fair amount times he has saved us from certain perils, is my beloved husband. He does not refer to himself as an artist but rather just a guy who builds the things that need to be built.
He often creates the base structure of our pieces. It’s an interesting process where I give him my thoughts and drawings and he returns from his shop
with something completely different!! But that’s what husbands and wives do, right? We speak different languages but in this process of miscommunication, he takes our work to a new level, to places I had not considered. Between the two of us, we successfully blend ideas to come up with some very creative pieces.
Mike enjoys experimenting with various woodworking techniques. He often creates puzzle type boxes with creative ways of opening and closing, some containing hidden compartments within. He continues to evolve as a woodworker as he hones in on his skill set at the lathe.
Outside of woodworking, Mike enjoys ‘big-boy’ gaming so he spends some of his time engineering and painting his three-dimensional warrior-creatures for his weekly man-outing where several professional men get together and become boys for the night.
Mike loves to ride his Harley down through the valleys of Saylorville Lake and takes the opportunity to 'steal' a ride from his busy schedule whenever he can.
I love to hear the stories of what he saw on his short but clearly fulfilling trips.
